Immun-Blot LF (low fluorescence) PVDF membranes are protein blotting membranes optimized for fluorescent and multiplex fluorescent applications. They offer high signal-to-background ratio, low autofluorescence, and superior protein retention to maximize blot detection sensitivity and enable downstream quantitation.

While both nitrocellulose and PVDF membranes are suitable for colorimetric and chemiluminescent detection, their inherent autofluorescence and lower signal-to-background ratios are not suitable for fluorescent detection of western blots.

Immun-Blot LF PVDF membranes are a low fluorescence alternative to these traditional membranes and are specifically designed for fluorescent immunoblotting and detection in the visible light (red/green/blue) spectrum. Immun-Blot LF PVDF membranes produce highly sensitive and quantitative results due to their superior signal-to-background ratios, which are three times higher than nitrocellulose and conventional PVDF membranes and are higher than other low-fluorescence membrane options (Bulletin 6116). Together with Bio-Rad’s new ChemiDoc™ MP imaging system, researchers now have a solution for generating quantitative fluorescent western blots.

Features and Benefits

  • Low autofluorescence — up to 3x higher signal-to-background ratios than conventional PVDF and nitrocellulose membranes
  • Superior protein retention — binding capacity of 300 μg/cm2, equal to most conventional PVDF membranes and a 2–3x increase over nitrocellulose membranes
  • Flexible and convenient packaging — membranes are available in both precut mini- or midi-sized filter paper and membrane sets and as rolls. Bio-Rad is the only company to offer precut filter paper and membrane sets for low fluorescence membranes
  • Imager compatibility — membranes have been validated on Bio-Rad’s VersaDoc™ MP, ChemiDoc™ XRS+, Gel Doc™ XR+, Gel Doc EZ and PharosFX™ imagers, and the new ChemiDoc MP imager. Additionally, these membranes are compatible with any imager possessing visible RGB excitation channels
