TGX Stain-Free Gels

Mini-PROTEAN® TGX Stain-Free™ and Criterion™ TGX Stain-Free™ precast gels, when combined with Bio-Rad’s ChemiDoc™ MP or Gel Doc™ EZ imagers, provide researchers with the fastest protein separation and visualization available using the standard Laemmli system.

Traditional handcast and precast gels take an average of 45 minutes to run. Following electrophoresis, traditional Coomassie staining can add another two hours of work before analysis of protein migration patterns can begin. Researchers using TGX (Tris-Glycine eXtended) stain-free precast gels and the ChemiDoc MP or Gel Doc EZ imagers can achieve protein separation, gel imaging, and data analysis in 25 minutes — without the need for staining. Additionally, proteins can be visualized on PVDF membranes following transfer for western blotting. The ability to verify that the proteins have transferred to the membrane without the need for ponceau staining and destaining increases the rate of success for western blotting experiments while saving time for researchers.

Features and Benefits

  • Reduced time to results — achieve protein separation, gel imaging, and analysis in 25 min
  • Greater transfer efficiency — proteins can be transferred from Mini-PROTEAN TGX Stain-Free gels  in as little as 3 min with the new Trans-Blot® Turbo™ transfer system
  • Confidence — ensure successful protein separation and transfer
  • Versatility — the same gel can be used for western blotting, standard staining methods, and mass spectrometry analysis
  • Cost effectiveness — use the standard Laemmli buffer system; no staining or specialized buffer systems required
  • Stability — patented long shelf life formulation allows storage for up to 12 months without losing performance quality
