The current gold standard in monoclonal antibody purification for most researchers is affinity purification with Protein A or G followed by size exclusion chromatography (SEC). Although robust and highly effective, this workflow does have critical pain points and inefficiencies, leaving researchers to feel that they must oversee every step of their workflow, not leaving their chromatography system unattended for more than a few minutes.

RNA-Seq library preparation is a manually intensive, time-consuming process prone to bias from the multiple enzymes required. So, how can you trust your sequencing results? Bio-Rad is revolutionizing RNA-Seq library prep with the SEQuoia Express Stranded RNA Library Prep Kit – a three-hour, three-tube solution eliminating the need for multiple enzymes and reducing both the number of pipetting steps and protocol time. The key is an engineered, proprietary retrotransposon called SEQzyme. With this serial template jumping, or continuous synthesis, reaction you can obtain an unbiased, stranded RNA-Seq library constructed to accurately represent both messenger and non-coding RNA from your sample.

Bio-Rad is excited to announce the launch of SEQuoia RiboDepletion Kit, the newest product in the SEQuoia portfolio of RNA-Seq sample preparation products. This is a stand-alone, post–library depletion kit that eliminates RNA-Seq library fragments that originated from ribosomal RNA sequences. The kit exhibits superior performance in retaining small RNAs while minimizing the loss of rare transcripts and RNA from limited samples, providing a better approach to whole transcriptome profiling. Furthermore, the cost of rRNA depletion can be significantly reduced by pooling and depleting multiple libraries in a single ribodepletion reaction.

Protein purification becomes a challenging step for applications requiring high protein concentrations (such as structural biology studies). This is also true for researchers purifying integral membranes proteins and untagged proteins from native sources. Here we provide some useful tips for selecting the proper resins, optimizing conditions and developing effective strategies to tackle the challenges associated with such difficult-to-purify proteins.

Do we ever think seriously about PCR plates, seals, and tubes as contributing to the quality of our gene expression results? Chances are that these PCR plastics are viewed just as labware by most people. In this article we bring out how simple factors, such as PCR plate rigidity, color of the wells, and adhesiveness of plate seals, can affect your gene expression results and show why it is important to use quality PCR plastics.

Interference from IgG heavy (~ 50 kD) or light (~25 kD) chains is very common when trying to visualize bands of immunoprecipitated proteins. If your band of interest has a molecular weight close to these, it becomes really hard to distinguish between the IgG and the band of interest. How could this be avoided? Bio-Rad’s new TidyBlot™ Western Blot Detection Reagent accomplishes this by binding exclusively to the native nondenatured antibodies rather than any IgG in the sample. Explore the performance characteristics of this new reagent.

Droplet digital PCR is considered the third generation of PCR technology. This technology enables the quantification of absolute measure of target DNA molecules, rather than the relative measure obtained from real-time PCR. Absolute quantification is advantageous in several applications, such as measuring copy number variation, detecting rare sequences and mutations, and analyzing gene expression.

2-D electrophoresis is a multistep technique that separates proteins first by a protein’s isoelectric point and then by its molecular weight. This powerful technique can separate thousands of proteins in a complex proteome and is useful for applications such as protein profiling and biomarker discovery. The drawback of the technique is that it requires multiple steps, each of which can be time-consuming and can contribute to problems with reproducibility.

Western blotting, although a commonly used technique, involves a time-consuming multi step process. The whole western blotting workflow could take up to three days to complete. Thus, having a tool to monitor each of the major steps in the western blotting workflow reduces chances of finding out at the very end of the workflow that an experiment was not successful.

Nuvia S media is a high-capacity strong cation exchanger (CEX) developed to operate over a range of experimental conditions, allowing scientists to scale up from laboratory- to process-scale more quickly and easily. Our data demonstrate that the high capacity and superb purification of Nuvia S media can significantly improve productivity by offering the robustness, capacity, and speed for processing large load volumes with smaller columns and less buffer consumption.
